General Office Support

Assist our main office staff by providing administrative support, such as greeting visitors, answering phones, photocopying, doing data entry, or shredding papers. Volunteers may also help us with mailings by stuffing envelopes and making trips to the post office. This volunteer position is well suited to someone who is detail oriented and has good organizational and communication skills. No specific experience is required; training is provided as necessary. Shifts vary but they typically range from 3-4 hours on a recurring weekly schedule.

Community Representation

Our volunteers represent HPC at community events and meetings and at gatherings of local clubs/organizations. These volunteer efforts help extend our reach to potential clients, other volunteers, and donors. Our volunteers may sit at a table answering questions from those who stop by—if they are comfortable with public speaking—can make presentations to groups. Volunteers with speech writing or communications experience are also needed.

Marketing & Development

Support HPC's community engagement efforts by writing thank-you messages to our donors, by identifying new local business partners for our fundraising events, or by securing silent auction donations. Staff an information table or speak about HPC at local clubs/organizations. Do you have strong social media skills? Maybe you could help us find more creative ways to engage with clients, donors, and shareholders in both virtual and community spaces. We’re also happy to work with volunteer grant researchers, photographers, proofreaders, writers, and graphic designers.

Maintenance/Landscaping

We often need seasonal assistance to upkeep or beautify the HPC office. Examples of these tasks include snow removal, gutter cleaning, landscaping (planting flowers, cutting grass), and general help with repairs and maintenance. Experience and proper equipment are required for all activities.

Annual Event-Focused Support

HPC holds events and programs throughout the year, including Walk For Home, Backpack To School, Rock to Stop Homelessness, and Adopt-A-Family. Each of these programs has its own volunteer teams. In general, volunteers are needed to chair the event/program, solicit donors, work on publicity and other outreach, handle day-to-day planning/tasks, help with day-of-event set-up and clean-up, and juggle other tasks. To learn more about our annual events and programs, please visit our events page.
